THE FIRST VISIT

Your unique set of symptoms requires an individual solution.

THE CONSULTATION

We get to know your health history and health goals

During your initial consultation + treatment, we have a thorough intake discussing health history and health goals before delving into treatment. Chinese medicine consultations tend to explore health on a deeper level and last longer, while sports acupuncture consultations are often pinpointed and brief. Tongue observation and pulse examination are also used as diagnostic tools. Depending on the complexity of your health concern(s), a large portion of your first visit may be dedicated to medical discussion.

THE TREATMENT

A treatment plan is uniquely customized to you

After our consultation, we transition into treatment using a variety of Chinese medicine therapies. In Chinese medicine treatments, acupuncture and herbal medicine may be combined or used exclusively on their own. Acupuncture is generally accompanied by other forms of bodywork, such as abdominal massage, cupping, rhythmic percussion therapy, or moxibustion. Herbal medicine may be prescribed as a stand-alone therapy or used with acupuncture and bodywork to support your treatment goals. In sports acupuncture treatments, acupuncture & dry needling may also be paired with therapeutic massage, cupping, and manual traction techniques.

Acupuncture can be intimidating for some, and I appreciate when clients trust me with their health complaints. I pride myself on being a good communicator and always ensure that my clients feel comfortable. Before we put the needles in, I will explain the process and what you should feel with each point.

THE PLAN

An individualized plan with a clear path forward

You will leave your first appointment with a clear treatment plan and a realistic assessment of how I can help you. The plan includes the number of treatments you will need, a customized herbal formula (as necessary), and nutritional & lifestyle advice. I recommend scheduling three to four subsequent visits, especially with more chronic or complex health conditions, as it can take a handful of visits to understand an illness pattern. Clients will often notice relief from a specific symptom straight away, though more visits may be needed to work on the underlying root of the issue.

The first visit is the foundation of our journey together. However, I learn the most helpful diagnostic information during return visits, where we discuss the changes you have experienced from treatment. How your body responds to treatment is key information that guides our plan forward.
